Very disappointed with Nepenthe. I did Ketamine Infusions and I am not happy at all with the experience. I waited to post a review b/c I was told that even though during three or four of the six treatments I felt like I was just looking at a fish tank, the treatments were still working and I would improve over time. That has not happened at all.
After a lot of research, I paid $2500 for six treatments and I was looking forward to what they might do for me. I have been in a funk was hopeful that I would get some improvement from Ketamine. Of the facilities that I considered, most mentioned that they provide access to a therapist to guide you in the process.I was told by Nepenthe that a therapist "would be in touch" but never heard from him until after my third treatment. When I did, he was obviously frustrated that treatment had begun before our first conversation. He said that is "not how it is supposed to go" and he had never heard of a facility starting treatment prior to that first discussion b/c that might be the most important part of treatment. It prepares the person, helps them understand what they might experience, and gives guidance in how to release bad past experiences during the treatments.
Most of the clinics I researched said that during treatment they are in the room throughout to monitor and evaluate your response. At Nepenthe, I sat in a recliner, an IV was put in, and an underwater reef scene was put on a television in front of me. For all treatments, once the IV was started, the nurse left and I did not see her again until the end.
In my case for the first three treatments I experienced basically nothing. During the 1st, I got a bit of the good feeling you get just before they put you under for surgery, and expected to experience more of the sensations I had read about others having, but I did not. After, I was asked if I experienced a "floating" or "out of body" sensation. I had not felt anything close to that. I told them about the good feeling, but other than a few minutes of that, I felt like I was watching TV. When leaving, I was encouraged to "journal" and given a small notebook. Because I had not experienced anything, I asked what I should be journaling. I was referred to their website and told there would be instructions there to help me. I didn't find anything helpful probably b/c I hadn't experienced anything.
After the 1st treatment they discussed increasing the dosage. During the 2nd and 3rd treatments, I experienced even less than during the 1st. During the 4th treatment, I finally had some of the feelings but not as intensely as others mentioned. The following day however, I experienced what I felt was a boost in my mood which was encouraging, but short lived. After the 4th treatment, the nurse said she was going to increase the dosage more significantly. However, she also increased the infusion time which I believe had the impact of actually reducing it. That was the only thing that I could reason that would result in me feeling like I went back to watching TV during that 5th treatment. She said she was going to push the dosage higher again for the final treatment. The 6th treatment was definitely different from all the others and the first time I truly understood what people were talking about when they mentioned psychedelic experiences. I also had the same boost and it did last longer this time, but eventually dissipated.
When I brought up my concerns after the 4th treatment, I was told that I could buy additional treatments for $400 each, but I should give it time b/c even though I had not felt anything for most treatments, it was still working. It's been almost 3 months now and no improvement. I believe it could have been helpful, however I don't think the dosage for most of the treatments was close to where it needed to be to provide a therapeutic benefit.
